At an August 1992 event in Baltimore, Ron Simmons defeated Vader to become the first-ever African-American world champion.

Nearly five months later, Vader got his revenge in the same city, pinning Simmons after a powerbomb to end his reign and become a two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
