On April 10, 2000, WCW heads Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo stripped every champion in WCW of their titles. A tournament for the United States Championship was then held. In the finals, Scott Steiner defeated former United States Champion Sting. Steiner held the title for close to three months before commissioner Ernest “The Cat” Miller stripped him of the United States Championship for using the Steiner Recliner (which had been banned) on Mike Awesome.
