One night after defeating Psicosis at the Bash at the Beach pay-per-view, Rey Mysterio was awarded the shot at Dean Malenko’s Cruiserweight Championship on an edition of Monday Nitro. Mysterio took full advantage of his opportunity, upsetting the veteran Malenko in the opening contest of the evening. The reign was just the first of many atop the cruiserweight mountain for Mysterio.
